Sunday, October 19, 2003 Durant Daily Democrat Rose Elaine ‘Williams’ Braly A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church in Durant for rose Elaine Williams Braly who died Thursday, Oct. 16, 2003, in Sherman, Texas. The Revs. Neill Morgan, Covenant Presbyterian Church in Sherman, and Ross Kirven of Durant will officiate. Mrs. Braly was born in Atoka County to former Lt. Gov. Cowboy Pink Williams and Daisy Lane Williams. She graduated from Ardmore High School and attended the University of Arizona where she was a Chi Omega. She also studied at OSU and the University of Oklahoma where she majored in art and journalism. While at OU, she wrote a column for the Daily Ardmoreite and later served as the women’s editor for newspapers in Ada and Wewoka. Mrs. Braly received a degree from Southeastern State College in elementary education. She married James O. Braly Feb. 13, 1942, in Muskogee. They lived in Linz, Austria, following Mr. Braly’s service in the Counter Intelligence Corps during World War II. Upon their return from Linz, they moved to Durant where Mr. Braly continued to practice law more than 50 years. Her life revolved around her family. She and her husband were president of the Washington Irving PTA. She was active for many years in the Camp Fire Girls. Mrs. Braly was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Durant, the American Association of University Women, Beta Sigma Phi and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She managed the two successful political campaigns of her father when he was elected Lt. Governor and State Treasurer of Oklahoma. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, and one brother, Edward Pinckney Williams.
