Brown, 88, of Odessa, passed away Monday, August 16, 2004, at Medical Center Hospital. He was born February 7, 1916, in Seymour, Texas. J.D. and his family moved to West Texas in 1940 to work in the oilfield. He moved to Odessa in 1941 and went to work for Shaffer Tool Co., there he worked for 20 years. He then went to work for Melco/Burnsco until he retired. He married Mildred Inez Jones Oct. 9, 1937, in Durant, Okla. He is survived by his wife, Mildred Inez Brown of Odessa; daughters, Claudine Hunt of Corpus Christi, Ernestine Alexander, Ida Johnson and Virginia Johnson, all of Odessa and Janice Cannady of Talihina, Okla.; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He is also survived by sisters, Mary Davis of Oxnard, Calif., and Ruby Frampton of Sacramento, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews. There will be a visitation from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, August 18, 2004, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, August 19, 2004, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Byron McWilliams officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park in Midland. Our sincere gratitude to the nurses at Medical Center Hospital and Dr. Surrendra.
