All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Buffalo Cemetery--Sayre OK Sylvia Adell Coffey Sylvia Adell Coffey, 84, of Amarillo died Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in San Jacinto Baptist Church with Dr. Stan Coffey officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Monday in Buffalo Cemetery in Sayre, Okla., by Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 S. Bell Ave. Mrs. Coffey was born Jan. 8, 1919, in Kenific, Bryan County, Okla. She was the eighth of 12 children born to John Henry and Laura Maine Price. She married Claudie D. Coffey on Dec. 20, 1936, in Mayfield, Okla. During the earlier years of their marriage, the Coffeys moved to California to find work. Mr. Coffey became a foreman of a large farm, raising vegetables for the War effort during World War II. With the end of World War II, the Coffeys returned to Oklahoma, where they farmed until Mr. Coffey's death in 1978. Mrs. Coffey's earlier years were filled with the many duties of a farm wife and homemaker, and she even worked in the fields. After her two children were grown, she attended Tech School in Clinton, Okla., to become a physical therapist. She worked in the Sayre Hospital for many years, until her retirement in 1980. Following her husband's death, Mrs. Coffey moved to Amarillo to be near her son, Dr. Stan Coffey and his wife Glenda when he became pastor for a second term at San Jacinto Baptist Church. She was active in the church for almost 20 years and was a member of the Esther Sunday school class and the pastor's class. Survivors include a daughter, Dianne Henson and husband, Odos, of Stillwater, Okla.,; a son, Dr. Stan Coffey and wife, Glenda, of Amarillo; four grandchildren, Mrs. Kim Hall of Amarillo, Mark Henson of Tulsa, Okla., Scott Coffey of Amarillo, and Natalie Coffey Archer of Chapel Hill, N.C.; and nine great-grandchildren.
