All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Durant Daily Democrat 28 Aug 2005 Viola (Wolfe) Cavender, 94 Viola (Wolfe) Cavender, 94, passed away on Tuesday, August 23, 2005 surrounded by her children and grandchildren at Four Seasons Nursing Home. Services for her will be at 10 a.m. Friday morning at the Calvary Baptist Church with Brother Darel Bunch officiating. Family night will be today from 7:30 - 8:30 p.m. at Coffey-Murray Funeral Home. Viola was born on Wednesday, May 3, 1911 in Konawa, to Charlie Wolfe and Martha (Curley) Wolfe. She married Claud Cavender in 1929. They moved to Durant in 1934 where they resided for the remainder of their lives raising ten children. She is survived by a daughter, Norma Pettett and husband, Bill of Durant; sons, Frosty Cavender and wife, Carolyn, Joe Cavender and wife, Vonda, Paul Cavender and wife, Carla, and Claud Wayne Cavender, all of Durant, and Jim Cavender and wife, Judy of Mesquite, Texas. Also surviving are 21 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and 20 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Nettie Paynor of Arkansas, and Lucille Hughes of Los Angeles, Calif. She also had a special son-in-law Vern Chandler of Louisiana, a special niece, Theresa, of Shawnee, and many other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Claud, in 1983. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Miran Chandler; three sons, Jerry, Robert and Mike Cavender; her parents; a grandson, David Cavender; a great-great- grandson, Kevin Sheffield; four brothers and two sisters. Viola worked as a nurse's aid in the hospital and nursing homes for many years. She worked for individuals in private homes as well. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and many relatives. She was a very loved "mother" and "grandmother". She loved cooking and preparing meals on holidays and special occasions for her family and friends. She loved making gardens and canning food. She was of the Baptist faith and loved gospel music. She also loved doing good deeds for other people. She was a very hard working person throughout her life, raising ten children and working outside the home. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery with grandsons serving as pallbearers.
