All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Durant Daily-Democrat 15 Dec 2004 Ruth Elizabeth Cooper, 94 A service will be at 2 p.m. today at Brown's Funeral Chapel, Atoka, for Ruth Elizabeth (Stackhouse) Cooper, 94, a resident of the Reunion Plaza and former longtime resident of Atoka, who died Saturday, Dec. 11, 2004, at the Medical Center of Southeastern Oklahoma. Lacey and Henry Cooper Jr. and John Carroll will officiate. She was born Oct. 3, 1910, in Durant to Lacey LaFray and Vena M. (Merritt) Stackhouse. She attended numerous schools, including Stroud, Slick, Bristow, Dustin and Atoka, and graduated from Tushka High School. She continued her education at Southeastern Teachers College in Durant and earned her teaching degree. She married William Henry Cooper Feb. 22, 1932, in McAlester. He preceded her in death May 14, 1992. She taught school for several years at Daisy, Pleasant Hill, Farris and Tushka. After retiring from full-time teaching to raise her sons, she continued to substitute teach in area schools. She was a former member of the Del City Church of Christ, Penn and a Church of Christ and in later years the South Atoka Congregation. She was active in her church activities. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister Alta Carter and brothers Dewitt, Neal, Coyle, Lacey Jr. and Byron Stackhouse. She is survived by sons Lacey Cooper and wife Laverne, Tushka, and Henry Cooper Jr. and wife Karen, Oklahoma City; grandchildren Carla Ward and husband Phil, Stillwater, Connie Howard and husband Dwayne, Caney, Sheri Hutson and husband Kent, Stringtown, and Brad Cooper and wife Sandra, Piedmont; great-grandchildren Todd Howard, Bronwyn Cooper, Samantha Howard, Brockton Ward, Shana Lansdale, Shelly Magby, Heath Magby, Carson Cooper, Riley Cooper, Quinn Cooper and Ryan Cooper; great-great grandchildren Dillon Mansell and Halli Lansdale; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many very dear and loved friends. Burial will be in Boggy Depot Cemetery with pallbearers Heath Magby, Bill King, Steve Mansell, Steve Hyatt, Brad Cooper, Todd Howard and Richard Lillard. Honorary pallbearers will be Brock Ward, Dwayne Howard, Kent Hutson and Phil Ward.
