Service is pending with Grantham Funeral Home. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. ========= Duncan Banner 23 Jun 2002 Dr. Jerry Dale Childs Dr. Jerry Dale Childs, 59, of Duncan died Saturday, June 22, 2002, in Norman Regional Hospital. Service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church with Dr. Craig Christina officiating. Service will be under the direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home of Duncan. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Dr. Childs was born June 12, 1943, in Durant, to Roy Dale and Maxine Beal Childs. He married Camilla Ann Campbell on May 28, 1965, in Durant. Dr. Childs was a research chemist with Halliburton from 1973 until his retirement in 2000. He was a member of Duncan Elks Golf and Country Club. His professional memberships include American Chemical Society, American Crystallographic Association, American Institute of Physics, Sigma Xi Research Society and many other professional organizations. Dr. Childs received his bachelor’s degree in chemistry and mathematics from Southeastern State University in 1965 and his doctorate in physical chemistry from the University of Oklahoma in 1971. His postdoctoral research in crystallography was with the National Research Council of Canada in 1972 and in molecular complexes with the University of Oklahoma in 1973. Dr. Childs had over 65 patents and publications, including one of the classic teaching textbooks. Survivors include his parents, of Mead; his wife, of the home; a son, Jeff Childs of Norman; a daughter, Camille Childs of Los Angeles; a brother, Larry Gene Childs of Mead; and a sister, Sherry Ann Davis of Stillwater.
