"Cleo" Cowin, 77, of Marlow, died Tuesday, June 11, 2002, in Duncan Regional Hospital. Service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Callaway-Smith-Cobb Chapel in Marlow with Jack Graves officiating. Burial will be in Marlow Cemetery. Mr. Cowin was born Nov. 30, 1924, in Calera to William Tobe and Ida Pearl Strutton Cowin. He married Betty L. Bush on Aug. 15, 1944, in Loveland, Texas. Mr. Cowin was a lifetime resident of Marlow and attended Bray School. He retired from the oilfield after 45 years with Astro Drilling and Schlensker Drilling. Also, he worked as a driller and tool pusher for other oil companies. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, his friends and neighbors. Mr. Cowin sold produce to local fruit stands and to people in the Marlow community. He enjoyed playing guitar and singing. Survivors include his wife, Betty of the home; three daughters and sons- in-law, Kathy and Billy Solomon, Sue and David Smith, and Joyce and Doug May all of Marlow; five grandchildren, Dewayne Solomon and his wife, Linda, of Del City, Rodney Solomon and his wife, Gina, and Shawn May and his wife, Daphne, all of Norman, Vicci May of Tulsa, and Lynn O'Neal and her husband, David, of Marlow; and six grandchildren, Miranda and Cody May, and Gage and Dayton O'Neal, all of Marlow, Megan Solomon of Norman, and Ben Solomon of Del City. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, J.R. Cowin; and three sisters, Opal Harrell, Lena Cockrell and Viola Nixon. Bearers will be Joe Hayes, Mitch Graham, Gene Solomon, Brent Warren, Eddie Lamb and Don McKeever. Honorary bearers are Bobby Duggan, Don Attaway, Gary Cullum, Joe Mann and Joe Booth.
