Curtis, 92 Daniel L. Curtis of Durant died Friday, Sept. 2, 2005, at the age of 92. A graveside service will be at 3p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, 2005, at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Colbert. Rev. Norman Ford will officiate. He was born March 13, 1913, in Los Angeles, Calif. He raised his family in California, where he spent much of his time helping children. He was a Boy Scout leader for many years, participated in various school organizations, and provided guidance to many young people. After retiring in 1978 he moved to a farm in Colbert where he raised peanuts, cattle, and horses for over twenty years. He moved to Durant in 1995. He loved to travel from coast to coast. He sponsored the 4th of July family reunion for thirty plus years. Daniel married Jessie Louise (Young) in December 1937 in Los Angeles, California. He was preceded in death by his wife Jessie, who was born in Grayson County and passed away May 5 of this year. They were married 67 years. He was also preceded in death by two sons: Billy Dan Curtis in 1953 and Edward Burl Curtis in 1997. He is survived by son Albert Curtis, Durant; three grandsons, Jesse Curtis, Durant, Darin Curtis, San Diego, Calif., and Danny Curtis, Rodeo, Calif.; three great-grandchildren Emma Curtis, Durant, Mackenzie Curtis, San Diego, and Dylan Curtis, San Diego; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Family and friends are welcome at Albert Curtis's home Friday evening, Sept. 9, 2005. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to a local chapter of the Boy Scouts of America.
