L. ‘Pete’ Carter, 85 Services are pending with Dalton-Holmes Funeral Home for A.L. ‘Pete’ Carter, 85, Calera, who died today at his residence. ================== Durant Daily Democrat Sunday, January 25, 2004 A. L. ‘Pete’ Carter Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Dalton-Holmes Funeral Home Chapel for A. L. ‘Pete’ Carter, a lifelong resident of Bryan County, who died peacefully Friday, Jan. 23, 2004, at his home in Calera. Minister Van Newton and Rev. Randa Norman will officiate. He was born Tuesday, April 16, 1918, in Calera, the second son of Ennis and Annie (Lyons) Carter. ‘Pete’ as he was known by friends and family, married Sybil Hobbs Oct. 28, 1939, in Durant. He was a retired farmer, dairyman and rural mail carrier. He also served for several years as a member of the board of the Rural Electrification Association. He was a member of Calera Masonic Rising Star Lodge No. 129. Upon retirement, he became an avid fisherman, and never missed an opportunity to try his luck. He led a full and productive life and will be missed by all. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Willard and Clifford. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Calera, with pallbearers Terry Cayton, James Varner, Terry Carter, Dean Carter, Dan Abel and Frank Nix. Honorary pallbearer will be Oran Chappell. Masonic rites will be conducted at the gravesite. Family hour is 4-5 p.m. today at the funeral home.
