Sunday, November 2, 2003 Monday, November 3, 2003 Durant Daily Democrat Lois Davis, 94 A service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church for Lois Davis, Durant, who died Friday, Oct. 31, 2003, at the Medical Center of Southeastern Oklahoma on her 94th birthday, from a stroke suffered at her home Thursday evening. The Rev. Herb Bridgewater will officiate. She was born Oct. 31, 1909 in Wolf Creek, to William Forrest and Bertie (Stark) Fisher. She grew up and attended school in Utica, graduating in 1927. She earned a teaching certificate from Southeastern State Teachers College and taught first, second and third grades in Utica for two years. On Aug. 14, 1933, she married Ralph Davis, a career-long officer and past vice-president of First United Bank, formerly Durant National Bank. They were a part of the bank family for many years. Early in her marriage, she worked for Taylor Beauty Shop, Long’s Drug Store and Durant Drug. For many years thereafter, she was a homemaker and caregiver to her mother, who lived with the couple. In 1959, she purchased House of Fabrics on First Avenue and operated the business 34 years. In retirement, she continued an active and independent life, dining daily with friends and playing bridge weekly with the Newcomers Club. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Durant for more than 50 years. She always maintained a positive outlook on life, and treated all with kindness. These traits won her a wide circle of loving and devoted friends and family. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother Cecil James Fisher and niece Patti (Fisher) Miskovsky. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery with pallbearers Jason Fisher, Terry Fisher, Gerry Fisher, Jon Nelson, William Fahrendorf and Alton ‘Pete’ Norman. Family will receive friends at the home.
