The will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint." Isaiah 40:31 Alberta Flaun Bowyer DeVore, 85, Durant, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many, made a peaceful transition from her earthly home to her heavenly address on Thursday, December 2, 2004, at Texoma Medical Center with her children at her side. The daughter of Edward Jenkins Bowyer and Elva Lee Norvell Bowyer, she was born May 20, 1919, in Tulsa. She graduated valedictorian of her class from Preston High School in 1937. Her marriage of almost fifty-seven years to Albert Keith DeVore began on July 22, 1941. They enjoyed an adventure- filled life working throughout the United States until they settled in Colbert in 1952. The family moved to Durant in 1962. She was a homemaker and also assisted her husband with the family business. At times she worked with her dear friend, Lois Davis at the House of Fabrics. Alberta was a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great- grandmother, aunt and friend who adored her family and brought insight, laughter, and a devotion that knew no boundaries to their lives. Her legacy always will be her enduring love for family, her positive outlook on life, the many longstanding friendships she fostered throughout her life, and the kindness with which she treated all who crossed her path. She was a long-time member of the Northwest Church of Christ, the Colbert chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, and the Durant Newcomers Club. A talented and artistic seamstress, she loved sewing and needlework and found great joy in creating gifts for family and friends. She enjoyed playing bridge and other games. She and Keith loved dancing, especially to the Big Bands of the 1940s. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, five sisters, and three brothers. She is survived by her children, Brenda DeVore Marshall and husband Tyrone of McMinnville, Oregon, Glenda DeVore Lakey and husband Harold of Sherman, Texas, Verne DeVore and wife Cathy Smith of Durant; grandchildren, Susan Lakey, Sarah Lakey Hudson and husband Jacob, Anthony and Matty DeVore, and Donna DeVore; great-grandchildren, Jayden Hudson, William DeVore, and Chrisitian DeVore; brother E.J. Bowyer and wife Valeta; sister-in-laws Alene DeVore, Betty Laubhan, and Evelyn Fishgrab; friends Woody and Betty Walker; and numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of her life will be held at the Northwest Church of Christ on Monday, December 6, 2004, at 2:00 p.m. with Ernest Sturch officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery with pallbearers Tyrone Marshall, Harold Lakey, Anthony DeVore, E.F. Hawkins, Fred Mashburn, Woodrow Walker, Terry Fisher, and Roy Rucker. Honorary pallbearers will be E.J. Bowyer, De Wayne Pence, and Terry Riddle. Family hour will be today from 4-5 p.m. at Coffey-Murray Funeral Home. Family also will receive friends at home. Order of the Eastern Star chapter of Colbert, OK will perform graveside rites. Memorials may be made to Home Hospice of Grayson County, the Reba McEntire Center for Rehabilitation and Reba's Ranch House, or a charity of your choice.
