Durant Daily Democrat Wednesday, January 21, 2004 John Doxsee, 85 Services are pending with Dalton-Holmes Funeral Home for John Doxsee, 85, Durant, who died today at his daughter’s home in Cartwright. ================== Durant Daily Democrat Friday, January 23, 2004 Sunday, January 25, 2004 John Doxsee, 85 A service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Durant First Presbyterian Church for John Doxsee, 85, Durant, who died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004, at his daughter’s home in Cartwright. The Rev. Ross Kirven will officiate. He was born Sunday, Nov. 10, 1918, in Caddo, to Joe Doxsee and Abby Semple, and raised in Caddo and Durant. He married Doreen Harrison, May 15, 1945, in St. Andrews Church, Droitwich, England. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and continued to serve in the Army reserve until 1978, when he retired after 36 years of service. He also worked for the postal service. He belonged to the Elks Lodge, Passport Club and Woodmen of the World, where he served as lodge trustee. He was a member of Durant First Presbyterian Church, where he was a Deacon, Elder and Sunday school teacher. He loved reading, woodworking and traveling. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Dawn Doxsee and brother Buddy Doxsee. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery with pallbearers Jason Morris, Al Williams, Ken Morris, David Knight, Jon Bastone and Scott Henderson. Family hour is 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
