Ferguson, 87, of Portales, will be 10 AM, Thursday, March 8, 2007, in the Wheeler Mortuary Chapel with Kenneth Broad officiating. Burial will be in the Portales Cemetery with Rusty Ferguson, Tyrel Ferguson, James Metzger, Michael Andrews, Chad Dutton and Jason Lee as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Sue Menchen, Rupert Baca and Tino Baca. Mr. Ferguson was born Sept. 14, 1919, near Durant, Okla., to the home of Nellie and John T. Ferguson. He passed away on Saturday, March 3, 2007, in Lubbock. Harold grew up near Paris, Texas, until the age of 10 or 12 when they moved to Spur, Texas. He worked as a cowboy in that area until World War II began. He served in the Aleutian Islands in the Army with the 82nd Airborne, as well as with other units. After the war was over, he returned to west Texas, where he again worked as a cowboy. On Sept. 4, 1948, in Durant, Okla., he was married to Ruby Mae Ross. In 1952 he went to work for the AT&SF Railroad, and retired as a car man in the early 1980's after more than 30 years of service. He worked out of the Belen yard until 1972 when he moved to Portales and began working out of the Clovis yard. Harold did some form of farming and ranching his whole life and was especially fond of his Jersey cows. He also liked doing mechanic work and repairing clocks. Mr. Ferguson was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church. He is survived by two sons, Frank (June) Ferguson, of Portales and Milton (Francine) Ferguson, of Peralta, N.M.; seven grandchildren, Rusty Ferguson, Shonda Andrews, Melanie Lee, Kari Dutton, Laura Bond, James Metzger and Jennifer Metzger; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Ed, Raymond, and Roy Ferguson as well as one who died in infancy; and two sisters, Ola Brewer and Annie Lewellen; and by his wife, Ruby, who died March 31, 2003.
