Files may be printed or copied for personal use only. ----------------------------------------------------- THE DURANT DAILY DEMOCRAT DEC. 20, 1998 Sam Franklin, 81 Sam Franklin, 81, died Saturday, Dec. 19, 1998 at a local hospital after an extended illness. Mr. Franklin ranched on the homestead settled by his pioneer Bryan County family in the Mead community. He attended Mead schools and served in the U. S. Army during World War II. He was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian church where he served as deacon and elder. Mr. Franklin retired from the Oklahoma Tax Commission in 1980. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam Franklin, Sr. and Vivian Keirsey Franklin and brother, Charles Franklin. Services will be Highland Cemetery in Durant under the direction of Dalton-Holmes Funeral Home.
