Mr. French died Wednesday after noon (March 25) at his ranch. He was stricken by a heart attack while working with cattle. He had no previous history of heart trouble. Don Price, pastor with the Madill First United Medthodist Church where Mr. French was a member, officiated for the services from Watts Memorial Chapel. An overflow crowd of friends and acquaintances attended. Johna Pryor was soloist for the services with Johnnie Ruth Jacks organist. Burial was in Woodberry-Forest Cemetery. Mr. French was born Oct. 12, 1915, in Durant. He was reared in Durant and attended school there. Following his high school graduation he attended Southeastern State University. He and Mary Byrd Taliaferro were married May 29, 1936, in Durant. He later attended Oklahoma State University, then Oklahoma A&M, and the couple moved to Madill to establish their home following his graduation in 1943. While ranching ws his main interest, Mr. French had other business interests. He was also active in community and church affairs and maintained a number of professional affilliations related to his ranching. Mr. French served two terms with the Madill Board of Education. He also served as chairman of the board with his church and was active on a number of church committees. His community service also included serving with the Marshall County Soil Conservation Service board, Southern Oklahoma Development Association board of directors and as a director with the First National Bank of Madill board. He also maintained membership with the Cattleman's Association and Limousin Association and was actively involved with a commercial cattle breeding program at his ranch. During a period following World War II, Mr. French was involved with a special farm training program for returning beterans, teaching in that program over four years. He and his wife built their ranch home in 1951, moving there to devote his full time to his ranching interest. In addition to his wife, Mr. French is survied by a son, Dr. George French, of Madill, and two daughters, Mrs. Freda Smith of Austin, Tex., and Mrs. Kathryn Gallagher of Tulsa. Also surving are five grandchildren and three sisters, Mary Jo Small of Santa Ana, Calif., Jane Semple of Bruch, Colo., and Jean Herd of Durant. Casket escorts for services and interment were Ollie Hall, Mickey Pruitt, Gary Larkin, Martin Dotson, Floyd Kreger, Wandell Booe, Tony Shelby and Charles Byars.
