Durant Daily Democrat Monday, January 26, 2004 Charles E.‘Chuck’ Farmer, 82 A memorial service will be at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church for Charles E. ‘Chuck’ Farmer, 82, Durant, who died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004, at Texoma Medical Center, Denison, Texas. The Rev. James Robinson will officiate. He was born Tuesday, Aug. 16, 1921, in Kellyville, to Robert W. and Hilda O. (Tiede) Farmer. He was raised in Oklahoma, then went to California and joined the U.S. Army in 1942. He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps from 1942-1947, recalled in 1951, during the Korean Conflict to serve in U.S. Army Special Services from 1951-1957. He married Mildred K. ‘Meg’ Davis May 10, 1942, in Long Beach, Calif., and established a home in California for 52 years. He returned to Durant in 1993. He served as Boys Club Director for several years in southern California. After retiring from Boys Club, he was self-employed for several years in the heating and air conditioning business. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Hollywood, Calif., president of the Methodist Men’s Club, Orangethorpe, Calif., and a member of the Boys Clubs of America Professional Association. Upon returning to Oklahoma, he was a volunteer at Washington Irving Elementary School, where he was affectionately known as ‘Grandpa.’ He was a member of Orangethorpe Methodist Church in Fullerton, Calif. He enjoyed woodworking and carpentry, but his favorite hobby was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother John W. Farmer and sister Edna Kingsland.
