She was born November 19, 1903 in Durant, I.T., the younger daughter of Roscoe Akin and Eppsie Ann Shaw Akin. She grew up in Campbell, Texas and spent her summers in Denison, Texas. She married Roy William Gimpel October 21, 1923 in Denison. They lived in California, Texas, and Louisiana before moving to Oklahoma City in 1931. Mr. Gimpel installed and serviced pipe organs. He died in 1973. Doris collected antiques and was for many years active in local chapters of the DAR, Daughters of the Confederacy, and United States Daughters of 1812. She spent many years compiling family records and doing genealogical research. She enjoyed traveling and visited England the Middle East and the Carribean with her sister, Vivian Evans. Doris is survived by her son, Roy Gimpel Jr., and wife, Jeanne; daughter Carolyn Hart and husband, Philip; grandsons Mark Gimpel and wife, Hiroko; Jeff Gimpel; Tom Gimpel and wife, Hai Ping; Roy Gimpel, III, and granddaughter Sarah Winchester and husband, Bruce; and five great-grandchildren, Eric, Isaac, and Carl Gimpel, and Trent and Adrienne Winchester. Doris was preceded in death by her sister, Vivian Akin Evans, and grandson Philip Hart Jr. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Chapel of St. Mary at All Souls Episcopal Church, 63rd and Pennsylvania with the Rev. Dale A. Petley officiating. The family wishes to thank everyone at Westminster Manor for their many kindnesses to Doris. We are especially grateful to the Director Margy Knox and to Staff Cynthia Collins, Dinna Graves, Kathy Gay and Janice Jones who gave her love and laughter as her days dwindled down. Our thanks go also to Hospice of Oklahoma County, Inc. and especially nurse Janie Peters and to Heartland Healthcare and especially Billie Martin.
