GAINES Daddy passed away on Tuesday, August 15, 2006. He was not alone when he passed and I believe he was met with open arms of those who loved him and had passed before him. He was born on August 8, 1930, to Charles and Bertie Gaines in Caddo, Oklahoma. He met and married Dessie Jones in 1947. They met in a place that he was playing music. Music was a big part of who he was but it was something he did just for the love of music itself. In 1958, we moved to Auberry where he worked at the sawmill. He worked at different places over the years, as far away as West Yellowstone, Montana, returning to Auberry where he and Dessie decided they wanted to stay. He was a mechanic for Luman Logging, the Ponderosa Telephone Co. and Sugar Pine Logging. When we had bar-b-ques it wasn't over until Daddy brought out his guitar and sang for us, whether it was in the backyard, at the kitchen table or out at the pit. Those of you who have been at his home will know where that is and how much fun we had. Daddy was preceded in death by his loving wife Dessie, they were married for 40 years; his parents, Charlie and Bertie Gaines; brothers Bill, Floyd and Marvin; and sisters, Opal Drane and Lily May Johnson. Daddy was blessed to have found love for the second time and spent the next 18 years with Pauline Goodrich. We are very grateful to her and love her very much. They had great fun doing things and going places together. He leaves behind three children, Carroll Williams and her husband Fred of Clovis, Taft Gaines and his wife Gwynne of Auberry and Mike Gaines and his wife Yvonne of Auberry. He had seven grandchildren, Tony and David Luman of Clovis, Brianna Riley of Clovis, Kady Gaines, Taft Gaines III, Megan Gaines and Courtney Gaines, all of Auberry; three great-grandchildren, Lacey and Anthony Luman of Clovis and Liv Riley of Clovis; and one great-great grandchild born on July 10, 2006, Landon Earp of Clovis. He also has nieces and nephews in Auberry, Madera, Coarsegold and Marysville, California, Nevada and Nebraska. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Remembrances may be made in Daddy's name to your favorite charity.
