Files may be printed or copied for personal use only. ----------------------------------------------------- THE DURANT DAILY DEMOCRAT DEC. 17, 1998 Edith (Phillips) Gamel, 87 A graveside funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in the Bokchito Cemetery for Edith (Phillips) Gamel, 87, of Durant. The Rev. R.H. Brese will officiate. Mrs. Gamel died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 1998, Durant. The daughter of John Edward and Bennie (Shields) Sluder, she was born Tuesday, March 28, 1911, in Lane. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Gamel loved to play bingo and cards. Tending her garden was her favorite pastime. She devoted her life to taking care of her family and will be missed by them and all those she touched. She married Charlie Phillips on Jan.27, 1938, in Durant. She was preceded in death by her parents, son Raymond Collum, daughter Imogene Daley, brothers Claude, Frank and Bud Sluder, sisters Lottie Wafferd, Ethel Dorst, Dee Pheips and Ruby PheIps, and grandchildren Delores and Jackie. Family hour will be held today from 6 to 7 p.m. at Coffey Funeral Home. Coffey Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
