All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Durant Daily Democrat 22 Dec 2004 Avery Sylvester "Red" Hicks, 71 Services for Avery Sylvester "Red" Hicks, 71, Atoka, who passed away Sunday, December 19, 2004, at Atoka Memorial Hospital, are scheduled for Wednesday, December 22, 2004, at Brown's Funeral Service Chapel at 2 p.m. Rev Clinton Thurman and Van Newton will officiate. "Red" was born in Box, Texas, June 12, 1933, to Jess and Agnes Aurora (Brown) Hicks. He married Tommy Mason April 4, 1964, in Durant. "Red" was raised in Bokchito and lived in Oklahoma all his life; he attended Banty schools and was a member of the builders club. He enjoyed woodworking, small engines and music. "Red" was a member of Voca Baptist Church in Caney. He was preceded in death by his parents Jess and Agnes; Estle Hankins; L.J. Hankins; sisters Georgie Morris, Leatha Wadford and Minnie Brown. He is survived by his wife, Tommy Hicks, of the home; Charles Prough and wife Rhonda of Coleman; son Walter Hicks and wife Janette of Atoka; daughter Margaret Morrison and husband Frank of Murray, Kentucky; daughter Sandra Wininger and husband Gene of Coalgate; daughter Prescilla Nunnelly and husband John of Armstrong; daughter Marilyn Bayles and husband Clarence of Atoka; daughter Debra Casey, Tushka; 11 brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; 26 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Family hour is Tuesday, December 21, 2004, from 6-8 pm at the funeral home. Interment is in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Caddo, with Raymond Smith Jr., Ricky Darrell Barnett, Gary Laury, James Hammons, Nathan Cunningham, Cody Casey and Tommy Stephens serving as pallbearers.
