She was born in Caddo, Oklahoma, on October 16, 1909, to Robert and Mattie Boydstun. As a child, she rode a horse to attend Caddo Public Schools, and as a young adult, she worked as a nurse's aide at a hospital in Durant. On December 26, 1931, Georgia married Horace M. Hasting, a local farmer, who preceded her in death in 1991, when they had been married for almost 60 years. Horace and Georgia had two daughters Glenda (G. Kay), married to Don Powers, and Sue Ann, married to John Goodman. Georgia was a life-long resident of the Caddo area. She worked 25 years for the Caddo Public Schools Nutrition Program, 14 years for Green Thumb at the Caddo Nutrition Center, and three years as an aide in the Caddo Public School Library, before retiring at the age of 85. She was a long- time member of the First Baptist Church of Caddo. Georgia was blessed with a long, healthy life, and as a result of the generous and loving help provided by numerous friends and neighbors, she was able to live in her own home until shortly before her 95th birthday. In Caddo, she became known as the "Town Memory" because of her sharp intellect and accurate memory, which were still with her the day she died. She will be remembered by family and friends for her generous spirit, her positive attitude, her quiet dignity, and her gratitude for the blessings God saw fit to provide. Her family, friends and community are blessed and better because of her and the goodness and love she shared with all. Georgia is survived by her daughters; her grandchildren, Sara Lyn Pascal and husband Bob of New York City; and Dr. Mark Goodman of Chicago; her great-granddaughter and namesake, Georgia Elizabeth Pascal of New York City; her brother Milton Randolph Boydstun and wife Joyce of Bethany, Oklahoma; several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. The family will be accepting guests at Dalton Holmes Funeral Home, 223 North 3rd, Durant, Oklahoma, (580) 924-0224, Thursday, April 28, from 6-8 p.m. A memorial service celebrating the life of Georgia Hasting will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 29, at the First Baptist Church in Caddo, with a reception to follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Georgia Hasting Memorial Fund at the First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 94, Caddo, Oklahoma, 74729. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Bryan County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/bryan/bryan.htm
