G.R. HALEY PASSES AWAY HERE AFTER LONG ILLNESS From the Durant Daily Democrat March 22, 1940 Mrs. G.R. Haley, aged 70 years, passed away at the family home, 415 North Third Avenue, this morning at 8:25 o'clock after a lingering illness. Mrs. Haley had been in poor health for the past three years, and on several occasions prior to her death, she was critically ill. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the First Methodist Church with Rev. W.L. Broome, pastor, officia- ting, assisted by Rev. R.T. Blackburne and Rev. W.N. Scholl, Durant, and Rev. J.A. Old of Dallas. Burial under direction of Holmes funeral home, will be in Highland cemetery. Mrs. Haley was born at Savoy, Texas in 1870. The family lived in Kenefic many years before moving to Durant about 17 years ago, since which time she had made this her home. Surviving Mrs. Haley are five daughters, Miss Thelma Haley, Durant; Mrs. Fred Washington, Caddo; Mrs. Stanley Stevens, Bonham, Texas; Mrs. E.H. Fox, Lake Charles, La., and Mrs. A.J. Stephens, Roswell, N.M.; four sons, Earl and Jim Haley, Durant; Carter Haley, Beaumont, Texas and J.P. Haley, Enid. Grandchildren are Peggy Stevens, Bonham, Vera, George, Caroline, Mary, Kenneth, Gloria, Betty Sue and James Stephens, Roswell, N.M.; Georgene and Margaret Sipes, Caddo, and Kay, Carol and Enoch Fox, Lake Charles, La. Mrs. Haley is also survived by three sisters, Mrs. O.T. Lowery, Oklahoma City, Mrs. George Lambeth, El Paso, Texas, and Mrs. J.A. Old, Dallas, one brother, J.P. Pritchett, Dallas, and two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Marvin Hunt, and Mrs. Lewis DaVault, Denison, Texas. Active pallbearers at the funeral services will be Willis T. Hall, Roy Paul, Hal Malone, V.R. Ferguson, Charley Goodman and George Pike. NOTE: Mrs. Haley's maiden name was Mina Pritchett. FUNERAL RITES FOR MRS. HALEY SUNDAY From the Durant Daily Democrat March 25, 1940 Funeral services were held at the First Methodist Church Sunday at 3 p.m. for Mrs. G.R. Haley. Special music was played on the organ by Billy Lemons, followed by songs by the members of the choir. The scripture reading was by Rev. Wm. Scholl, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church. Rev. Broome, pastor of the First Methodist Church, read the life's history of the deceased, speaking words of sympathy from the Bible to the bereaved ones. Many floral offerings expressed the esteem and love of the deceased one. Burial was in Highland cemetery beside Mr. Haley who passed away Nov. 3, 1933. Holmes Funeral home had charge of the burial service. A number of out-of-town friends and relatives were here for the funeral services.
