Survivors omitted. Durant Daily Democrat Monday, December 22, 2003 Robert Allen Henderson, 61 Robert Allen Henderson was born December 13, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois. He was the son of Chester Earl Henderson and Mae Rowe Henderson. He passed from this life on December 20, 2003, at Texoma Medical Center in Denison, Texas. He was preceded in death by his father. He married Lissa Henderson. He left Chicago with his parents when he was five and moved to Thompson Heights in Denison, Texas. He returned to Chicago during his childhood, but he always returned to his home in Thompson Heights. Robert always like to refer to himself as a person from Chicago, though he was truly a combination of both Denison and Chicago. He graduated from Denison High School. Robert received his B.A. and Master's degree from North Texas and his Ph.D. in English with a concentration in Medieval Literature from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Robert taught at the University of Houston for five years and then returned to Thompson Heights in 1977 when he purchased property adjacent to his parent's house. In 1979 Robert joined the faculty of Southeastern Oklahoma State University. He received his tenure in 1987 and taught until the end of the fall 2003 semester. He intended to continue teaching for at least five more years. He was passionate about teaching, and he garnered tremendous respect and admiration from the students, faculty, and staff alike. Robert spent the remainder of his life building and loving his home and property in Denison. A talented craftsman, Robert was very proud of his work and home and loved to spend time creating special treasures for those he loved. Details of his incredible talent can be found throughout his home. Robert was a caring, generous, and passionate life force who will be forever missed by his family and friends. A service will be held Tuesday, December 23 at 2 p.m. at the home. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 18 in the Fine Arts Recital Hall (The Little Theatre) on th campus of Southeastern Oklahoma State University.
