Herd, 83 Services are pending with Coffey-Murray funeral home for Jean F. Herd, 83, Durant, who died Wednesday, Dec. 15, in Durant. ========= Durant Daily-Democrat 18 & 20 Dec 2004 Jean French Herd, 83 Jean French Herd, longtime Durant resident, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on Dec. 15, 2004, at the age of 83. Throughout her life she touched and enriched many lives and will be loved forever by her friends and family. She was born Dec. 29, 1920, to Lester Monroe and Doraidelle (Fuller) French in Durant. She was a graduate of Durant High School and Southeastern Oklahoma State University. She also attended Oklahoma College for Women at Chickasha. Jean and John Boyd Herd Jr. were united in marriage at First Methodist Church of Durant on May 3, 1942. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women's Circle, Durant Country Club, Women's Golf Association and Durant Creative Art Guild and enjoyed golf, tennis, bridge, knitting and painting. Some of her artwork is found in local homes, businesses and the Durant Main Street Association. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother Allen Webb French, sister Mary Jo French Small, twin sister Jane French Semple, father and mother-in-law John Boyd Herd and Virginia and daughter-in-law Beverly Borin Herd. She is survived by three children and their families, four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. The children are John Boyd Herd III and wife Carolyn, Durant, Barbara Shipp and husband Jim, Durant, and Linda Moran and husband Pat, Tulsa. Grandchildren are John Boyd Herd IV and wife Sue, Seekonk, Mass., Brandon Herd and wife Regina, Florence, Miss., Julie Shipp Rainer and husband Jay, Mount Brook, Ala., and Jeana Shipp, Norman. Great- grandchildren are Shannon, Paige and Brooke Herd; Anna, Adam and Aimee Herd; Jamie, Mary Kate and Maggie Rainer; and Jackson Harrington. Also, she is survived by many loving cousins, nieces and nephews. Services are at 2 p.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church. Greg Tolle and Rev. Ross Kirven will officiate. Interment will be at Highland Cemetery with pallbearers Butch Arnett, George French, Pat Gallagher, Mike Moran, Bill Semple, Jim Tyler and Earl Umsted. Honorary pallbearers are Joe Barker, Bill Caldwell, Joe Clay, Bill Foote, Howard Frazier, G.P. Gentry, Dub Manahan, George Morrow, Don Carpenter and Bob Ewing. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your charity of choice.
