All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::New Auburn Cemetery--Auburn CA Robert Cain Hultsman 5/29/1917 - 8/7/2007 Robert Cain Hultsman, age 90, died peacefully at his home in the company of family on Aug. 7, 2007. Bob was born in Albany, Oklahoma, on May 29, 1917 and grew up as the youngest son in his family. During his high school years Bob was very proud of his track accomplishments. He was the 1935 State Small School 100yd. Sprint Champion. He and his high school sweetheart, Sadie Sue Dellinger, were married Dec. 25, 1937 in Durant, Oklahoma and they have had a loving marriage for almost seventy years. Bob started his career with four brothers-in-law for the Guy F. Atkinson Company in 1942. During this period of time he worked on the Dennison Dam along the Red River, near Sherman, Texas. Bob then moved his family to Long Beach, California, as he continued to work in construction for the company. Bob was called to active duty for the United States Army in 1945 during World War II. Upon return to Long Beach after the war, he continued his career with Guy F. Atkinson, which spanned a total of 39 years. Working on the Spruce Goose project is one highlight of his career. That led to the opportunity for Bob to have his family attend the flight of the Spruce Goose on Nov 2, 1947. He was also involved on many dam projects throughout North America, as well as the Interstate 80 project over Donner Summit. Bob was a lifelong member of the Albany Baptist Church, and he held member-ship in the American Legion and the Operating Engineers for 44 years. Bob also enjoyed assisting with the Boy Scouts as a leader, hunting with family members, doing mechanical pursuits, and woodworking. After an extended illness Bob passed away peacefully at home on Aug.7, 2007. Bob's sweet disposition, love for his family, and his outstanding work ethic are a legacy to his family who love and will miss him. He is survived by his wife of almost 70 years, Sue Hultsman, his sister Alice Hultsman, his four sons: Robert Hultsman (Beverly), John Hultsman, Ken Hultsman (Anne), and Ben Hultsman (Vickie). He is also survived by ten grandchildren: Robert Hultsman (Sylvia), Joseph Hultsman, Jeff Hultsman, Todd Hultsman (Michelle), Julia Miller (Todd), John Hultsman (Sherrie), Kristin Hultsman, Erika Stauffer, Scott Hultsman (Mandi), and Vaughn Hultsman (Sonja). Sixteen great and five great-great-grandchildren also survive him. Memorial services are scheduled at the First Baptist Church of Auburn, Wednesday, Aug. 15 at 12:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, or Hospice. Arrangements are under the direction of Sierra Foothills Funeral Services.
