Jones, a longtime Sonoma County and California resident, died Thursday in a Petaluma convalescent hospital after a long illness. She was 84. A native of Perry, Okla., she grew up in Perry and Caddo, Okla., moving to California in 1941. She lived in San Rafael, Alameda, Marin City and San Francisco before moving to Rohnert Park in 1967. In San Francisco, she worked as a seamstress for Simmons Mattress Co. and in retail sales for jewelry companies. For many years she worked with the Sonoma County elections department as a precinct worker, picking up ballots and setting up polling places. She also was active in the Petaluma Moose Lodge and the Hessel Grange, where she was chaplain for 10 years. She is survived by children Bobbie Glen Jones of San Francisco and Jobina Sue Shipley of Rohnert Park; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Parent-Sorensen Mortuary and Crematory in Petaluma. Interment at Cypress Hill Memorial Park is private. Visitation is after 9 a.m. today.
