Leta Chastain McClendon

PLAINVIEW - Leta Chastain McClendon, 99, died Wednesday, June 11, 1997.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Plainview Cemetery with 
Elder Joe Longoria of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 
officiating. Arrangements are by Lemons Funeral Home.

Mrs. McClendon was born in Durant, Okla., and moved to Kress at an early 
age. She grew up in Kress and attended school there. She moved to Aiken in 
1933 and worked as a nanny.

She married Edgar Franklin McClendon II in 1935 at Clovis, N.M. He died in 
1977. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Dorothy Nichols, in 
1965.

After marrying, she moved to Plainview. She was a member of the Mormon 
Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and the American Legion.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Hill of Hale Center; a son, Eddie 
McClendon of El Paso; three grandsons; five great-granddaughters; and four 
greatgreat-grandchildren.
