Graveside service: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Moore Memorial Gardens. John McCarroll Jr. was born Nov. 13, 1915, in Durant, Okla. He graduated with a bachelor of science in chemistry from Texas Tech University in 1938. Mr. McCarroll retired from Mobil Oil Corp. after 33 years of service. A veteran of World War II, Capt. McCarroll received the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal for bravery while navigating unarmed, unescorted C-47 transports in the resupply and evacuation of wounded during the Battle of Guadalcanal. He was an avid square dancer and bird breeder. His kindness and friendship touched all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his wife, Genevieve; a son, John III; and a brother, Billy J. McCarroll. Survivors: Son, James Ernest McCarroll and his wife, Katherine L.; sister, Mary M. Dodd of Wheeler; brother, Fred J.
