All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Lawton Constitution November 21 & 22, 2002 Thelma Vada Mansel ELGIN — Funeral for Thelma Vada Mansel, 88, Elgin, will be at 10 a.m. at Sterling First Baptist Church with Adraine Smith, Sterling, and Doug Turney, Fort Cobb, officiating. Mrs. Mansel died Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2002, at a Lawton nursing center. Burial will be at Sterling Cemetery under direction of Hodge Funeral Home, Fletcher. She was born Sept. 11, 1914, in Kemp. She moved to Sterling in 1929. She married Frank Mansel on Dec. 6, 1933, in Lawton, and they lived in Elgin. He died Sept. 7, 1988. She was a homemaker, and cooked for the Fletcher Lions Club. She was also a housekeeper, babysitter and elder care provider. She was a member of the Mistletoe Neighborly Club and Sterling First Baptist Church. She worked in the church nursery for many years. Survivors include a daughter, Shirley Nickell, Elgin; and three sons: Burl and James, both of Elgin; and Roy, Sterling. She was preceded in death by her parents: Felix Nolen and Alice Anderson Nolen; two daughters: Betty Jean Workman and Geneva Mansel; four sisters: Maxie Nolen, Opel Nolen, Brooksie Nolen and Marie Ballard; and four brothers: Durel, A.C., Floyd and J.D.
