All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Tuesday, August 5, 2003 Durant Daily Democrat Angela Michelle Ovecka, 23 The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Brandon, Vt., for Angela Michelle Ovecka, 23, who died Friday Aug. 1, 2003, as the result of a car accident outside Gallup, N.M. She was born March 29, 1980, in Denison, Texas, to David and Janice (Corey) Ovecka. She attended Lothrop Elementary, Pittsburg, Vt., and graduated from Otter Valley Union High School in 1998. At Otter Valley, she participated in the music program as an accomplished flutist and was selected for the Green Mountain District Music Festival six consecutive years and the All-State Music Festival in 1996. She also garnered numerous academic achievements, was selected for the Vermont Math Team and was active in the Youth Ministry of St. Mary's Church, Brandon. She graduated Princeton Summa Cum Laude in 2002 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering. She earned the Calvin Dodd MacCracken Senior Theses/Project Award and the David W. Carmichael Prize, and devoted much of her free time to the Princeton University Wind Ensemble, serving as membership chair, treasurer and president. During vacations, she worked as an intern at the National Institute for Standards and Technology in Gaithersburg, Md., The Sirloin Saloon in Rutland, Vt., and as a research assistant for Dr. David Billington of Princeton. Following graduation, she worked for Parson's Inc. in Essex, Conn., as a bridge designer. She was a catechist at St. Margaret's Church in Madison, Conn., and a member of the Stratford Community Concert Band. At the time of her death, she worked for Parson's Inc. in San Francisco, Calif., on a major bridge construction project. In addition to the flute, she enjoyed playing the piano, quilting, growing pumpkins, reading, hiking and creating stained-glass designs. Survivors include her parents; sister Elaine, Brandon; brother Petty Officer Third Class David Ovecka Jr., currently stationed in Ballston Spa, N.Y.; grandparents Edward and Arlene Ovecka, Lebanon, Penn., and Leonard and Claire Corey, Mead; aunt Suzanne Corey, Irving, Texas; aunt and uncle Sharon and Steve McLinn, Oklahoma City; cousin Jonathan S.C. McLinn, Oklahoma City and many close friends. All who knew her were enriched by her joy for living, her deep spirituality, her playful sense of humor and her compassion for others. She had a beautiful life.
