Wednesday, October 8, 2003 Durant Daily Democrat Jasper Powell, 89 Services are pending with Coffey-Murray Funeral Home for Jasper Powell, 89, Durant, who died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003, at the Medical Center of Southeastern Oklahoma. =========== Thursday, October 9, 2003 Durant Daily Democrat Jasper "Jap" Powell, 89 A service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Wade Baptist Church for Jasper ‘Jap’ Powell, 89, Durant, who died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003, at the Medical Center of Southeastern Oklahoma. The Rev. Carroll Hooper will officiate. He was born Sunday, Oct. 12, 1913, in Yarnaby to James A. and Willie Lee (Brown) Powell. He married Juanita Bernice Jackson June 27, 1943, in Midland. He served in the U.S. Navy, worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps and was a retired rancher. He was of the Baptist faith. He loved gardening, which he avidly pursued in his retirement. He was especially proud of the tomatoes he grew and loved showing his garden to family and friends. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. It can be said Jap never met a stranger. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Marion Powell, and sisters Martha Lauderdale and Mamie Lothridge. Burial will be in Wade Cemetery with pallbearers Billy Hauk, David Vandenburg, Jimmie Grimes, Tommy Johnson, John Teel and Jerry Fuller. Honorary pallbearers will be Muriel Fuller, Buster Dunegan, Leon Miller and Billy Mack Allen. Family hour is 7-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
