Tuesday, September 30, 2003 Durant Daily Democrat Nell Roberds, 87 Services are pending with Coffey-Murray Funeral Home for Nell Roberds, 87, Durant, who died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2003, at the Medical Center of Southeastern Oklahoma. ========== Friday, October 3, 2003 Durant Daily Democrat Evelyn Nell (Rainey) Roberds Services were held Tuesday in San Saba, Texas, for Evelyn Nell (Rainey) Roberds, who died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2003, at the Medical Center of Southeastern Oklahoma, Durant. She was born Jan. 8, 1916, in San Saba, to Ed and Florence (Watkins) Rainey. She was a graduate of San Saba High School. She married Edgar Hillman Roberds Aug. 19, 1933. The couple farmed and ranched in San Saba for many years, then moved to Odessa, Texas, where Edd owned and operated an oil well servicing business. Nell managed T. L. Miller Jewelry Store and Odessa Luggage Shop for several years, until the couple retired to Lake Buchanan. They also lived in Brownwood, Texas, several years before finally settling in Brady, Texas. Nell moved to Durant in 1995 to be near her daughter and family. She resided in Four Seasons Village Apartments for the past nine years. She was a devoted mother who enjoyed sewing, gardening, cooking, quilting and, above all, her painting. She will always be fondly remembered for her beautiful oil paintings of Texas bluebonnets and central Texas landscapes, which she shared with so many friends and family members. She was preceded in death by her parents; stepmother Lula Rainey; husband in 1987, after 54 years of marriage; an infant daughter and son; sisters Lillian Smith and Ann Miller. Burial was in China Creek Cemetery will pallbearers Jim Draycott, Emmitt Miller, James Miller, Bud Roberds, Scottie Roberds, Jerry Tedder and Weldon Whisenant. The Roberds family wishes to thank all those who helped care for Nell during her stay in Durant.
