Files may be printed or copied for personal use only. ---------------------------------------------------- Source: THE MADILL RECORD 3/11/1982 ---------------------------------------------------------------- Bruce Lee Rice Surname: Rice, Duncan, Jones, Maxey, Whatley THE MADILL RECORD 3/11/1082 BRUCE RICE'S SERVICES HELD TUESDAY Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at Cumberland for Bruce Lee Rice, 87, a Marshall County resident since the year of statehood. Mr. Rice died Sunday evening in a Madill hospital. He had been in ill health two years. Wesley Mitchell officiated for the services at the Cumberland Baptist Church. He was assisted by W.C. Jester with music presented by the choir. Service arrangements and burial in the Cumberland Cemetery were under the direction of Watts Funeral Home. Mr. Rice was born Oct. 21, 1894, in Arkansas. He moved to Marshall County in 1907, living several years on Rooster Creek, later moving to Aylesworth. He and Ora Duncan were married Feb. 14, 1914. They observed their 68th wedding anniversary last month. They farmed several years following their marriage. He later worked for Service Products Co., in Aylesworth until his retirement in 1957. During World War I Mr. Rice served with the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Cumberland Baptist Church and had been a member of the Masonic Lodge since 1951. Survivors include Mrs. Rice, a resident of Brookside Manor; two sons, Loyd of Pauls Valley and Charles Rice of Woodward; four daughters, Lorene Jones of Little City, Polly Maxey of Tishomingo and Winfred Whatley of Durant. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. A Mosonic graveside service was conducted by Dr. Wade Reed with the formal Flag presentation made by Fred Vanderpool and Joe Pakulske. Mansonic members served as pallbearers.
