He was born in Durant in 1932, the youngest of three sons of Mark and Ethel Staton. He distinguished himself... ========= Durant Democrat 11 Nov 2004 Donnell Joe Staton Donnell Joe Staton, former resident of Durant, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004, in Fort Worth, Texas, from complications resulting from leukemia. He was born in Durant in 1932, the youngest of three sons of Mark and Ethel Staton. He distinguished himself at Durant High School as first-chair trumpet player in its award-winning band. After graduating from the University of Oklahoma, his professional career began as an electrical engineer with Stronberg Carlson in Rochester, N.Y. He then worked for Collins Radio in Richardson, Texas. Subsequently he operated an OrigEquip franchise in Fort Worth and ended his career as an investment broker/financial adviser. After retirement, he and his wife served in the foreign mission field in Zimbabwe, Manila and Bangkok. He is survived by his wife Helene of Fort Worth; daughters Kay, Eugene, Ore., and Karen, Cyprus; son Kent, currently on missionary assignment in France; brothers Kenneth, Lubbock, Texas, and Carroll, Durant; sister Markita Goodman, Lexington, Ky.; as well as five grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. Services will be at Southcliff Baptist Church in Fort Worth at 1 p.m. Thursday.
