All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Stone, Loretta Hargis 1914 - 2005 Loretta Hargis Stone, 90, died Tuesday, March 8, 2005, at a Stephenville nursing home following a lengthy illness. Memorial service: will be held in Sherman at a future date. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to a charity of choice; or to the Alzheimer's Association, 7610 N. Stemmons, Suite 600, Dallas 75247. Loretta was born in 1914 in Achilee, Okla., to Victor Lynn and Bessie Ester Cole Hargis. She lived the American dream, starting with picking cotton in the Red River fields of Oklahoma, surviving the Great Depression, working as a waitress during World War II, becoming a specialty buyer for Fort Worth's The Fair department store during the 1950s and 1960s. She was married for 57 years to Clyde O. Stone, a World War II veteran and war hero. Both are a part of the Greatest Generation story. They lived in Fort Worth for over 50 years and lived in Stephenville the past three years. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Peggy Hargis Farley; brothers-in-law, Leslie Stone and Jimmy Stone; sister-in-law, Earleen Stone and her husband, Bob Horner. Survivors: Husband, Clyde; sister, Virginia "Tommie" and husband, Dale Scoggin of Denison; brothers, Bill Hargis and wife, Peggy of Bedford, Ben and Delores Hargis of Amarillo; sisters-in-law, Polly Stone of Stephenville and Mary Stone Huffman of Tuscan, Ariz.; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
