All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== ::Stephenville FH--Stephenville OK Durant Daily Democrat 17 Mar 2005 Loretta Hargis Stone, 90 Loretta Hargis Stone died Tuesday, March 8, 2005, at Community Nursing Home, Stephenville, Texas, following a lengthy illness. She was born in Achille in 1914 to Victor Lynn and Bessie Ester (Cole) Hargis and died at the age of 90. A memorial service will be held in Sherman, Texas, at a future date. She lived the American dream, starting with picking cotton in the Red River fields of Oklahoma, surviving the Great Depression, working as a waitress during World War II, and becoming a specialty buyer for the Fair Department Store in Fort Worth, Texas, during the '50s and '60s. She was married for 57 years to Clyde O. Stone, a World War II veteran and war hero. Both are a part of the Greatest Generation Story. They lived in Fort Worth for over 50 years and have lived in Stephenville the past three years. She is survived by her husband; sister Virginia "Tommie" and Dale Scoggin, Denison, Texas; brothers Bill and Peggy Hargis, Bedford, Texas, Ben and Delores Hargis, Amarillo, Texas; sisters-in-law Polly Stone, Stephenville, and Mary Stone Huffman, Tucsan, Ariz.; nieces and nephews Phil and Kim Scoggin, Gloria and J.B. Ward, Durant, Steven and Jill Farley, Kevin and Dana Farley, Denison, Kimi and Randy Emerson, Pullman, Wash., Richard and Cindi Farley, San Antonio, Texas, Kenneth and Irene Hargis, Cupertino, Calif.; Ronnie and Mary Hargis, Jim and Annette Hargis, Amarillo, Debbie and Cal Potter, Hurst, Texas, Susie and Don Coan, Stephenville, Rick and Gail Stone, Ron and Cindy Stone, El Paso, Texas, Sandy and John Shaw, Tucsan, Amanda and Roger Houser, Champaign, Ill., Gene and Barb Horner, St. Joseph, Ill.; and a host of great-nieces and -nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her parents; sister Peggy Hargis Farley; brothers- in-law Leslie Stone and Jimmy Stone; and sister-in-law Earleen Stone Horner.
