The Rev. Bob Reuter will officiate. The son of Maurice and Vurl Steers, he was born July 15, 1934, in Taloga. Mr. Steers departed this life at Wilson N Jones Hospital in Sherman, Texas, on April 21, 1999, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Carter spent 40 productive years with the United States Department of Agriculture, Soil Conservation Service. Seven of those years were spent here in Bryan County. After Carter's retirement, he and his wife JoAnn returned to Durant because of their love for the First Christian Church and many special friends. During this time Carter began his second career, designing model home landscapes for Centex Homes of Dallas. Often Carter returned to his roots in Dewey County. He loved nothing more than helping his parents and brother with farming and ranching. He was preceded in death by his mother Vurl Steers and sister-in-law Kathy Steers. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Mounds Cemetery south of Taloga under the direction of Shaw Funeral Home in Vici. Visitors are welcome at the family home.
