Sweeney, age 84, of Hanford, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 7, 2006, in Hanford. Gwendolyn was born in Calera, Okla., on May 5, 1922, to Hulet L. and Hazel M. Ray. She was raised and educated in Calera, Okla., graduating from Calera High School in 1940. Gwendolyn moved to the Hanford area in 1940 and married J.K. Sweeney in Reno, Nev., in September of 1941. She was a wonderful homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother. LaMoine Drug Store employed her in the cosmetic department for many years. Gwendolyn was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star of Hanford. She enjoyed cooking and sewing for her daughters. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a very special lady and will be missed by all who knew her. Gwendolyn is survived by two daughters, Merdys Roberts of Hanford and Linda Rudis of Visalia; one brother, Joe B. Ray of Marysville; two sisters, Imogene Propst of Hanford and Mary Ray of Richardson, Texas; two granddaughters, Jana Gonsalves of Davis and Nicole Rudis of Visalia; and one very special great-grandson, Christian Blair of Davis. She was preceded in death by her husband, J.K., in 1998; and by her brother, Jack Ray, in 2004. Private family services will be held at a later date.
