Officiating will be the Rev. Frank M. Morris Jr., a life-long friend: and the Rev. Canon Barbara Mudge. Interment will be at Port Orford Cemetery. Mrs. Smith was born June 24, 1917, in Bryan County, Okla., the daughter of Thomas and Monnie (QUALLS) DYKES. She died June 26, 1999, in Winchester Bay. She married Lester T. Smith in Idabelle, Okla., on Oct. 3, 1932. The couple made their home in Port Orford and in 1949, Era opened the first drive-in restaurant in Port Orford. She was a rural mail carrier who also helped out neighbors by filling the grocery lists they left in their mailboxes. The couple moved to Winchester Bay in 1990. She was very family oriented and was a lifelong member of St. Christopher Episcopal Church. She enjoyed hospice volunteer work, crocheting, knitting and bowling. She is survived by her daughters, Betty Dodge, Winchester Bay, and Darla Smith, Bend; sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy and Jacqueline Smith, Frank and Bonnie Smith, Steve and Aletha Smith and Tom Smith, all of Port Orford, Jerry Smith of Florida and William C. Smith, Florence; brother Thomas Dykes, Brookings; sister, Lena Shaw, Medford; 19 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester, in 1998; son, L. T. Smith; and seven siblings.
