Durant Daily Democrat Thursday, January 29, 2004 Friday, January 30, 2004 William E ‘Bill’ Smith, 70 Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in Dalton-Holmes Funeral Chapel for William E ‘Bill’ Smith, 70, Durant, who died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004, at Wilson N. Jones Memorial Hospital, Sherman, Texas. Minister Van Newton will officiate. Smith was born Oct. 12, 1933, in Eagle Pass, Texas, to Ora D. and Essie (Kyles) Smith. He married Florence Elouise Hamill in Muskogee, Jan. 4, 1955. A self-employed, lifetime resident of Bryan County, Smith served in the United States Navy from 1950-1954 during the Korean Conflict. He owned and operated Bill Smith’s Termite and Pest Control and also Smithway Nursery and Tree Services. Smith played fast pitch softball and had a team called the Smithway Nursery which won many tournaments. He loved fishing and deeply loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Smith was preceded in death by his parents and sister Marice Frew. Burial will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, northeast of Armstrong. Pallbearers include Dennis Nunnally, B. J. Ownby, Dennis Roberts, Jerry Presley, Tony Sullivan, Brian Wheat and Danny Brown. Honorary pallbearers include Willie Smith, Bryon West and Scott Miller.
