Simmons, 86, Durant, who died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2004, at the Medical Center of Southeastern Oklahoma. ============== Durant Daily Democrat Thursday, February 26, 2004 Dona Jewell (Perkins) Simmons A service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Abundant Life Temple in Durant for Dona Jewell (Perkins) Simmons, 86, Durant, who died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2004, at the Medical Center of Southeastern Oklahoma. The Rev. Jim Zenger will officiate. The daughter of Jasper Newton, Margaret ‘Maggie’ Bell (Miller) Perkins, she was born Sunday, March 11, 1917, in Atoka County. She was a homemaker, charter member of Abundant Life Temple, was a nurse at the old Durant hospital, and loved gardening, growing her vegetables and quilting. Her greatest love were her children. She married Clarence Thomas Simmons Dec. 8, 1944, in Durant. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; sisters Margaret Cole, Clara Bradford, Ruth Prough, Annie Oleata Simmons; and brother Elvin Perkins. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery with Gerado Cuevas, Stanley Perkins, Ryan Mitchell, Steven Covington, Jasper Cross and Coy Simmons serving as pallbearers.
