Friday, October 31, 2003 Sunday, November 2, 2003 Durant Daily Democrat Donald Eugene Thurman, 72 A service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Denison, Texas, for Donald Eugene Thurman, 72, Durant, who died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2003, at his residence. Father John Dick will officiate. He was born Tuesday, Aug. 18, 1931, in Wichita, Kan., to John Helum and Tresa Ann Thurman. He married Dolores 'Dee' Ann Martin, May 30, 1952, in Wichita. He was employed at the Southwest Daily Times newspaper in Liberal, Kan. 33 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus 20 years. He was a secretary and member of Elks Lodge for 23 years. He was on the school board for St. Anthony's Catholic School in Liberal two years. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Denison. He was in the U.S. Navy reserve eight years. He came to Durant in 1992 from Liberal, where he had been a lifelong resident. He was preceded in death by his parents, and son Richard Allen Thurman. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Denison, with pallbearers Hector Trevino, Christian Holloway, Kenneth William Holloway, Coy Simmons, Matthew Williams and Ed Strafford. Rosary will be 6-7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
