Friday, October 10, 2003 Durant Daily Democrat Martha (Lawson) Umsted, 97 A Service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hopewell Baptist Church for Martha (Lawson) Umsted, 97, Durant, who died Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003, at her residence. The Rev. Robert Umsted will officiate. Burial will be in Center Hill Cemetery under the direction of Coffey Murray Funeral Home. ========== Sunday, October 12, 2003 Durant Daily Democrat Martha (Lawson) Umsted, 97 A service was at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hopewell Baptist Church for Martha (Lawson) Umsted, 97, Durant, who died Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003, at her residence. The Rev. Robert Umsted officiated. She was born Tuesday, Dec. 19, 1905, in Hopewell, to Lewis and Catharine (Holley) Lawson. She married Earl Umsted in Atoka County in 1941. She lived all her life in southeastern Oklahoma. She was a beloved wife and mother, and a homemaker who loved to cook, garden, sew and especially quilt. Her favorite pastime was playing dominoes with family and friends. She was a member of Mt. Zion Freewill Baptist Church, deeply devoted to her family and faith and a living testament to the ways of the Lord. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents, daughter Wanda Bliss and stepdaughter Betty DeSantos. Burial was in Center Hill Cemetery with pallbearers Rick Umsted, Lee Umsted, Chuck Umsted, Aaron Umsted, Scott Brown and James Whitmire.
