VanArsdell, 79 Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at First Christian Church, Durant, for H. D. VanArsdell, 79, Durant, who died Tuesday in Denison,. The Rev. Charles Bretz and Bob Shaw will officiate. VanArsdell was born Oct. 31, 1920, to Sam Duane and Bertha (Howell) VanArsdell in Stilwell. On Dec. 9, 1946, he married Jean Hatcher in Independence, Kan. He was a highway patrolman for 34 years, serving as captain with Troop E for years. He was a 32nd Degree Mason a member of the First Christian Church and Texoma Good Sams. He was a man of many talents. He loved to fish, hunt and travel. But most of all, the love he had for his family and friends will be his most cherished legacy. VanArsdell was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Virginia Beck. He is survived by his wife, Durant; sons, Sam VanArsdell, Tulsa, and Robert VanArsdell, Durant; daughter Pat Montana, Wilburton; sisters, Merle Lee, Wichita, Kan., and Bonnie Wilson and husband Bert, Pawnee, and granddaughters, Dena, Maryann and Leah, Wilburton. Family hour is 6-7 p.m. today at Murray Funeral Home. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Durant, with pallbearers Mike Williams, John Haynie, Bill Flanagan, Ike Miller, Merle Freeman and Johnny Simpson. Honorary pallbearers are Paul Clark and Bernie Yandell. Murray Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
