All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== ::Oakgrove Cemetery--Nida OK Durant Daily Democrat 18 Mar 2005 James 'Eddie' Whitmire, 84 Services for James "Eddie" Whitmire, 84, Kenefic, who passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2005, in Durant, will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 18, 2005, at Brown's Funeral Chapel. Pastor W.C. Hamilton will officiate and be assisted by Randy Tadlock. Eddie was born September 14, 1920, in Nida, Oklahoma, to Andrew Gustin Joseph Reeves and Beatrice L (White) Whitmire. He attended Lonestar and Kenefic schools. Eddie married Lydia Rae Markham in Durant, Oklahoma, on November 25, 1943. He served in the Army Air Corp from 1941 to 1945. After being discharged he and his family moved to the Kenefic area where he farmed peanuts, worked in Fort Worth for a time, then Shawnee, building Airplane parts before settling in as a postmaster in Kenefic, where he retired after 27 years. Eddie also owned Whitmire Grocery for 30 years. Eddie's hobbies included fishing, hunting and gardening, but mostly his grandchildren. He was a member of Shepherd's Chapel in Gravitt, Arkansas, an avid reader of the Bible, and will be greatly missed. Eddie was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Beatrice Whitmire; his daughter, Margo Elaine Whitmire in 1945; and twelve brothers and sisters. He was the last Whitmire in his family. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Lydia Rae Whitmire, of the home; son George Whitmire and his wife Kimberly, of Vicenza, Italy; son Kenneth Whitmire and his wife Cathy, of Kenefic; grandsons, Daniel, Glen, David, Brett, Chase, and Benjamin; granddaughters, Mary and Remonica; great grandsons, Richie, Justin, Mikael, and Tanner; great granddaughters, Samantha, Whitney, Mackinzi, and Olivia; numerous nephews and nieces, and a host of friends. There is no family hour scheduled, however, the family will receive friends and visitors at the residence. Interment will be in Oakgrove Cemetery in Nida where Harley Smith, Mike Markham, Glen Whitmire, Daniel Whitmire, Steve Whitmire, Richard Whitmire, David Whitmire, and Brett Whitmire will serve as pall bearers.
