Alexander Barbara E. Alexander died on Jan. 26, 2000, at Sutter Davis Hospital. Born on Jan. 24, 1921, in Anadarko, Okla., she was 79. She served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps during World War II. She attended UC Berkeley and UC Davis. She received her master's degree in microbiology and worked at UC Davis as a microbiologist in veterinary medicine for 30 years. She retired from UC Davis in 1978. A Davis resident since 1967, she was a volunteer for the Sutter Davis Hospital Foundation and worked in the Travelaires office at the Davis Senior Center. She was a past Girl Scout leader, a member of the UC Davis Bowling League and was an avid golfer. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Robert B. Alexander of Davis; her five children, Robert B. Alexander Jr. and his wife Judith of Davis, Gary F. Alexander of Pahoa, Hawaii, Peggy Sue Alexander of Sacramento, Ann Finch and her husband Bob of Woodburn, Ore., and Mary Gillis and her husband Jay of Davis; 13 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. Friends are invited to attend a memorial Mass at 2 p.m. Monday at St. James Catholic Church, 200 W. 14th St., Davis. Private interment will take place at the Davis Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made in her name to the Davis Senior Center, 646 A St. Arrangements are under the direction of Davis Funeral Chapel.
