Buckner died Monday, 25-Dec-2000 at his home in Hinton. Officiating was the Rev. Mark Barnett. Burial was in the Lookeba Cemetery under the direction of the Hinton-Turner Funeral Home of Hinton. Buckner was born 17-Dec-1933 at the home of his maternal grandparents in Pecos, Texas to Maurice F. and Joedna (Hudgens) Buckner, Sr. He married the former Myra Sue Dunn 29-May-1957 in Fort Smith, Ark. Buckner lived in Pecos until 1940 when his father was transferred to Sanderson, Texas by the state highway department. He began first grade there but moved back to Pecos in February where he lived until the fall of 1941 when he moved to Tucumcari, N.M. He moved back to Pecos a year later and graduated from high school there in 1952. He attended Texas A&M and then enlisted in the United States Army 10-Feb-1953. He served three years of active duty and was in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1956-1964. He enlisted in the Oklahoma Air National Guard in August 1976 as a staff sergeant. He was transferred to the Retired Reserve 02-Jan-1990 as a Senior Master Sergeant. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force 17-Dec-1993. He was employed as a refinery helper at the U.S. Potash Company mine and refinery, a truck driver for the Cardinal Chemical Company in Hobbs, N.M., a mail carrier in Carlsbad, N.M., United States General Accounting Office in Albuquerque, N.M., a cost accountant for the International Minerals and Chemicals Corporation in Carlsbad, N.M., as a Revenue Agent for the Internal Revenue Service in Oklahoma, a staff auditor for the Air Force Audit Agency at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City, Ok., and as a management analyst for the Office of the Comptroller at Tinker. He remained in this position until his retirement from Civil Service on 02-Jan-1988. He then worked for the Oklahoma Tax Commission as an auditor until he retired from that position in December of 1995. After moving to Hinton he was active in the Lions Club and the Methodist Church. Preceding him in death were his parents; his sister, Martha Sue (Buckner) Owens; his maternal grandparents, Joe W. and Mattie (Cox) Hudgens; and his paternal grandparents, John W. and Mary Jane (Ballew) Buckner. Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Maurice Frank III and Lynn Buckner of Gresham, Ore., and Bruce Patrick and Christy Buckner of Richardson, Texas; and one brother and sister-in-law, Joe William and Judy Buckner of Bosque Farms, N.M.
