Burial was in Fort Cobb's Oak Grove Cemetery under the direction of the Steverson Funeral Home of Anadarko. Bates was born 18-Oct-1914 in Blossom, Texas to John Oliver and Cora Clyde (Dickey) Bates. He grew up in Altus, Jackson co., Ok. where he attended school. He was a WWII veteran. He worked for the Oklahoma State Agriculture Department as an inspector and was assigned to Gold Kist Peanuts in Anadarko. He moved to Fort Cobb Lake in 1983 and attended the Fort Cobb Methodist Church. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers and four sisters. Survivors include two sons, two daughters, 12 grandchildren, and one sister.
