He was born in Gracemont, Okla., on July 31, 1934, to Leonard and Audrey Bentley. He coached Little League Baseball, Pop Warner Football and Youth Basketball for many years as his kids grew up in the Chico community. He was very influential and instrumental in the lives of so many of the local kids and their families through the many sports programs that he participated in. He served as a mentor and role model to kids and parents alike. He had a passion for kids that were less fortunate and had a gift for inspiring and encouraging each child to participate and develop to his/her fullest potential. His greatest pride was co-founding the Chico Senior Softball League in 1982, which is, to this day, a vibrant and integral part of the Chico senior community. Alvin was also an incredible artist, poet and writer of short stories. He attended and was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church where he participated in small groups and the choir.
