Burks died 19-Mar-1988 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Oklahoma City, Ok. Masonic rites were performed as part of the service. Officiating was the Rev. Gary Vitosky, pastor. Burial was in Anadarko's Memory Lane Cemetery under the direction of the Steverson Funeral Home of Anadarko. Burks was born 03-Sep-1916 in Verden, Grady county, Ok. to John and Margaret (Sweeney) Burks. He married the former Ethel Dyer 29-Jan- 1944 in Carnegie, Caddo county, Ok. He was a retired farmer, having served four years with the United States Marines during World War II. He was a member of the local Oddfellows Lodge, Eastern Star, Rebekah Lodge and the Knights of the York Cross of Honor. He was also a member of the Bethel Baptist Church. Preceding him in death was one daughter, Joyce Ann Saathoff; his parents; three brothers and one sister. Survivors include his wife of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Sandy Burks of Anadarko; one daughter and son-in-law, Roberta and Neal Stidham of Anadarko; one son-in-law, Don Saathoff of Anadarko; two sisters, Mary Mitchell and Dorothy Kelly, both of San Bernadino, Calif.; 10 granchildren and three great grandsons.
